MEDIAVAUNU 2003-2005 - THE LINE OF 24 MEDIA STOPS

SATAKUNTA MOVING PICTURE CENTRE (SMPC) / MEKA TV

Satakunta Moving Picture Centre is the regional centre for the motion picture. It has been operating over 12 years. One of the essential functions of the centre is to offer local people various kind of media education. Mediavaunu was developed to this need. Mediavaunu offers the education, the help and the equipment to the inhabitants of the small villages in order to create their own media. Mediavaunu consists of the guide person and the basic equipment to create the digital media. Products can be Internet sites, virtual photo exhibitions, own videos, documents and animations.

In the route of Mediavaunu there are 24 media stops, where own media has been created. During the project Mediavaunu has reached about 1200 persons. They have either made the movies or participated as viewers to the grand premieres. Approximately 400 persons have participated in the movie making or Internet site making process.

Mediavaunun toiminta-alue
Mediavaunu operates in these villages, cities and municipalities in the Satakunta region

Hiljainen kylätie odottamassa Mediavaunun kolinaa...Mediavaunu-project started in the end of the year 2003 and will end in the end of the year 2005. The project has been very successful. The villagers' enthousiastic and exited attitude and media students' good interest to develop new methods and tools has played a big role in this success. Remarkable is also the expanding of the human network of SMPC and MEKA TV during this project. New villages are reached, the feedback from the villagers has been positive and there seems to be the need to the permanent Mediavaunu activities.

The project has also given birth to some new projects. On basis of the experiences of Mediavaunu started the "Elokuvakipinä"-project.  "Elokuvakipinä" is a manuscript competition to the children between 6-12 years. The best manuscripts will be carried out as movies. Elokuvakipinä is co-operation with Arts Council of Satakunta and Satakunta Moving Picture Centre/MEKA TV. There will also come 2 Mediavaunu-DVD:s, the one consisting of the Mediavaunu-method and teaching and the other consisting of all the movies made during the Mediavaunu-project.

The biggest dilemma with the project is how to continue these activities after the Leader+-financing ends. The villages don't have that much funds to finance these kind of activities and the SMPC organisation needs to deliver its minor wealths also to many other activities in the field of movies and motion picture.
